Beauty
What is beauty?
Why does beauty have both objective and subjective components? If beauty can all be broken down to mathematics, why, though there’s general agreement about what’s beautiful, is this not necessarily so, but instead, each person has his own taste?
“There is nothing more beautiful that God created than sadness.” – from an Iranian movie
Is there something truly ugly about the modern world? When I’m going down a highway through nice scenery, and then see a billboard disrupt that scenery, I resent all these modern accoutrements. So is modernity truly ugly, or is it all relative?
What's so bad about fake flowers? Bad taste?
Beauty is physical. So what makes a math proof beautiful?
If beauty is found in order, then why is it found even in disorder, in fractals, like in a tree? Or is it the order in the disorder that’s beautiful? But isn’t the beauty of nature filled with disorder and irregularity? But then doesn’t irregularity lead to variety, and isn’t variety beautiful? Variety = the many.
Beauty = balance of objectivity vs subjectivity = generalities vs exceptions
Why are aesthetic proportions not the same across the arts? (architecture and music in Ugly: the Aesthetics of Everything, p 41)
