Unjust Warfare/War
What’s the difference between the Jewish religious wars as recorded in the Bible and jihad? What was the Israelite’s idea of just warfare? They attack whomever they please and have God’s support.
Why is it that in the Old Testament, God commanded people to kill evil people, but in the New Testament this is never allowed? For example, Jehu was told by God to kill all who belonged to Ahab. (II Kgs 9:7-8, 10:1-11)
If God wanted to curse Canaan and bless the Israelites, why didn’t he just do this on his own, rather than enlist the military of Israel to do this?
I thought David was a righteous man. So why did he go on raids against the Geshurites, Girzites and Amalekites? And then to make matters worse, he would make sure he killed everyone there, not because they really deserved it or for some other reason, but just to make sure that nobody could tell Achish what he had done. (I Sm 27:8-12)
I Chr 5:18-22 What!? This is nothing less than a raid! Why should God have answered them? Who were they to think they were in the right to "trust God" and why should God have acknowledged this? (Battle with the Hagrites)
How was it right for Asa to attack the cities of Gerar? Why did God help him? (I Chr 14:14-15) How was it right for King Asa and Israel to chase after the Ethiopians? In just warfare, shouldn’t they have just fought until they caused the Ethiopians to retreat, instead of going after them? (II Chr 14:13)
How could Jehoshaphat have been a righteous king if he participated in unjust warfare by helping king Jehoram get his tribute from Moab and his control over it? Also, why did God support this unjust warfare, by bringing Moab to destruction? (II Kgs 3:5-7, 18)
How could God be with Amaziah and help him in war when he cruelly killed 10,000 Edomites by throwing them off a cliff, dashing their bodies to pieces? (II Chr 25:11-12)
And how was God with him if he allowed the Ephraimites raid the cities of Judah, killing 3,000? (II Chr 25:7-10, 13)
Why couldn’t the Israelites allow the Moabites to keep their land, rather than take it from them, the women and children? (Nm 21:21-2)
