Natural & Inevitable Inequality/The Unequal Distribution of Wealth
Is it wrong to tutor rich kids at high prices? Explanation: On the one hand, the extra help is giving these kids a boost, one that they don’t necessarily deserve but which they get just because they happened to have been born to a set of rich parents. There could be some other kid out there that’s far more capable, but goes ignored because they happened to be born to parents that couldn’t afford tutoring for them. On the other hand, you can’t blame their parents for wanting the best for their children; that’s only natural, and in fact, good. So how can something that’s good be so unfair and a cause for great evil in this world? Then again, who says it’s fair that the non-rich kid is born smart and the rich kid not so smart? So then is money the great equalizer after all? Yet ironically, this disgusts me all the more that this money has “leveled the playing field”. Natural talent, though and because it’s a God-given grace, should be what’s honored, not money. Again, why do I hold natural gifts in higher esteem than gifts that have been “bought”? (No irony intended, since a gift cannot be bought.)
A thinking point: Should all kids be tutored if they have the means and the opportunity?
Why is eugenics wrong?
