Sins against Love (Revenge Seeking)
Why does the Law of Moses tell Israel not to associate with Ammonites or Moabites or seek out their peace and prosperity? This goes against love. (Dt 23:3-4, 6) Wasn’t Boaz kind to Ruth (who was a Moabite)? (Ru 1:4, 2:5-4:17) Also, that would mean that King David and even Jesus would not have been allowed in the assembly of the LORD. (Mt 1:1)
Ps 41:10 Aren’t we supposed to not take revenge? How come in Old Testament times you could do this and not sin?
How is it right that a person could punish and shame another by pulling off his sandal and spitting in his face? (Dt 25:9-10)
It’s so horribly evil what the bible says in Ps 137:9 (“Blessed shall be he who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!”)
How is it fair that the avenger of blood could kill the manslayer if he was outside the city of refuge? He didn’t mean any harm, and now he’s stuck in the same place for what could be a very long time, uprooted from his former life. If God wants to protect the innocent, why not just declare him innocent and be done with it? (Nm 35:15, 25-27)
It was OK under the Law to do what Nehemiah did (be physically violent and curse). (Neh 13:25)
