Women’s Gender Role
Why does Paul encourage women to get married, stay at home, bear children and look after their households? And that if they don’t they become gossips and busybodies? It seems that Paul believes that all women will become this way if in the same situation (widowhood) because this is just the way women are. Also, the whole thing about women staying home, bearing children, etc, makes it seem like this is the only function of women and the only reason they were created. Meanwhile, the men get to have all the fun pursuing a career and getting outside the house everyday. It really puts women in the position of baby-making machines. The most important question, does a woman have only two choices in life - to marry and do the whole marriage/baby thing, or devote her life to God? (I Tm 5:14, 13, 10, Titus 2:4-5)
When career conflicts come up, if a woman chooses them over her kids everyone derides her for that, but if a man does the same thing, no one cares. She's considered a bad mother and a bad woman.
Why did God make women the weaker sex? (I Pt 3:7) Is it fair?
